It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of two North Carolina Law Enforcement Officers as a result of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.

In Macon County, an off-duty deputy tragically lost their life when their vehicle was swept away by rushing floodwaters. In Madison County, the Sheriff’s Major was preparing to leave for duty when she, too, was carried away by rising waters while heading to her patrol vehicle.

Please join us in keeping these brave officers, their families, and the entire Macon and Madison County Sheriff's Offices in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. Let us also remember all those affected by this tremendous hurricane, including the NC State Highway Patrol and the many others working tirelessly to protect and serve amidst the devastation.
